Banfield reduces HCVS role
By: Stephen Pullen
Michael Banfield, vice president and life member of the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society has announced that he is retiring as senior executive officer of the HCVS on October 31, 2011.
Having celebrated his 75th birthday earlier this year, he felt the time was right to enjoy more time for family life with his wife, Susan, and his many hobbies, which will still involve veteran, vintage, classic and historic commercial vehicle restoration and rallying.
Michael’s long association with the HCVS started in 1958 when the original Historic Commercial Vehicle Club was founded. Michael initially served on the executive committee as vehicle preservation officer succeeding to the post of chairman in 1965 and secretary in 1968.
He was appointed senior executive officer in 1993.
Michael and Susan have organised the HCVS London to Brighton Run since the Silver Jubilee Run in 1986 and after celebrating a very successful 50th anniversary run this year he felt it was now time to hand over the reins and organisation to the society’s council of management.
Michael has completed an unbroken record of 53 years’ service with the HCVC/HCVS and wishes it every success in the future.
